Build Your Savings Automatically
Smart Cents Savings
Smart Cents Savings is a really easy way to build up your savings balance. Our Smart Cents program is available for free with any Blue checking account.
Here’s how it works:
- Purchases made with your Blue Debit Card are rounded to the nearest dollar amount
- The difference will be transferred automatically from your checking account to your savings account (or specified account) at the end of each day
- Track your savings in online banking

Move Your Money
After your account has been open for 90 days, you may transfer out of your Blue accounts using Move Money
- Transfer up to $5,000 in a rolling 30-day period
- Transfer up to $5,000 a day from external checking and savings accounts

What do I need to open a checking account?
Typically you will need a valid Federal photo ID, Social Security number, and basic contact information. You can open many accounts online in minutes.
Does Blue offer free checking?
Yes. Blue offers a Basic checking option with no monthly service fees as long as you keep the required balance or do the minimum amount of transactions.
Can I open a checking account online?
Yes. Members can apply online anytime or visit a local branch for personalized assistance.
Are Blue checking accounts federally insured?
Yes. Accounts are insured up to applicable limits by the NCUA.
Does Blue offer checking accounts for teens or students?
Yes. Uchecking to help young members learn strong financial habits early.
Where can I access my money without ATM fees?
Members have access to thousands of surcharge-free ATMs and shared branches nationwide. Check for the Coop shared branch logo.
Where can I find information about Overdraft and NSF fees?

What if I don’t have enough money in my account to cover a transaction
If you don’t have enough money in your account, one of two things may happen. If Courtesy Pay covers the transaction, it will be paid and you’ll be charged an overdraft fee. If the transaction is returned unpaid, you may be charged a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) fee instead.
