This is our story
Blue’s story of growth and community over more than 75 years.
The Beginning
Blue Federal Credit Union was originally chartered in 1951 as Warren Federal Credit Union by civilian personnel at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Built on the philosophy of people helping people, the credit union was created to serve members with trusted financial support and community connection.
Growing Together
Over the decades, Blue evolved from its military roots into a growing regional financial partner, guided by opportunity, innovation, and community connection.
A defining moment came in 2016, when Warren Federal Credit Union merged with Colorado-based Community Financial Credit Union to form Blue—expanding its reach and setting the foundation for future growth.
A New Era
That momentum continued with the 2020 acquisition of Liberty Savings Bank branches and the opening of Blue’s World Headquarters in Cheyenne in 2021—marking a new era of scale and collaboration.
Blue celebrated 70 years of service and opened its World Headquarters in Cheyenne, Wyoming — marking a major milestone in the organization’s continued growth and innovation.
Expanding Our Reach
From 2022 through 2024, Blue continued expanding its impact across Wyoming and Colorado through strategic partnerships, regional growth, and deeper community investment. During this time, Blue launched partnerships with organizations including the Blue Championship Korn Ferry Tour event, Blue Arena, Blue Sport Stable, and Laramie County Community College — helping strengthen connections through sports, education, and local engagement.
In 2024, Blue entered another major chapter of growth with the completion of the Aventa Credit Union merger, expanding Blue’s presence throughout Southern Colorado and welcoming new members and communities into the Blue family. Together, these milestones reinforced Blue’s commitment to empowering members, investing in communities, and creating authentic connections across the region.
Today & Beyond
Today, Blue serves more than 142,000 members worldwide across 25+ locations and over $2.17 billion in assets. As Blue continues to grow, the mission remains the same: helping members realize their possibilities while strengthening the communities we serve.

Since 1951, Blue has grown alongside its members and communities, guided by the credit union philosophy of people helping people. That spirit remains at the heart of the organization today and is reflected in a yearlong anniversary celebration centered on gratitude, generosity, and shared stories.
Our anniversary initiative is designed to make the celebration both meaningful and impactful by investing directly in the communities that have supported Blue along the way.

An independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded to champion, fund, and celebrate local causes that keep communities strong, financially stable, and healthy.
The Boost Center by Blue
Opened in 2024 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the Boost Center connects people with trusted nonprofits focused on housing, education, and economic opportunity.
Blue University
Free, self-paced financial education covering budgeting, home buying, fraud protection, and more. Eight courses available online — open to anyone.
